10 Years of Photographing the Beauty of the World: 5 Lessons I Learned

I have been a photographer for over 10 years, capturing the beauty of the world and its people. Along the way, I learned valuable lessons that helped me shape my craft and business. In this blog post, I want to share my top five lessons learned from my 10-year journey in photography.

1. Investing in my Craft and Business has Always Been Key to my Growth

One of the most important lessons I learned early on is the importance of investing in my craft and business. It has shaved years off my learning curve. What this has looked like has varied from investing time, money and effort. From workshops to equipment and mentorships, investing in my craft and business is the reason I’ve created a successful six figure business.

2. Staying True to My Passion

I also learned that staying true to my passion was essential. Trusting that my favorite things to capture–emotions, movement, and beautiful light–was what my work would be about. I didn’t post “looking at the camera” photos just to satisfy potential clients. By doing so, I created a business and brand aligned with my soul.

3. Having Patience and Letting Go of Frustration

It was easy to get frustrated when my editing was not where I wanted it to be. I had to learn to have patience and let go of the frustration, which was honestly a struggle for me. I knew exactly what I wanted but didn’t know at that time that I had to allow time to pass. Time and experience was key in allow my eyes time to adjust to learning new editing techniques. This was a valuable lesson to learn, as it saved me time and energy in the long run.

4. Keep Growing

Even though reaching my goals was such an accomplishment, I never stopped learning and growing. It’s never been an option to just get comfortable and settle. I’ve always enjoyed learning and contribute to do so to this day. It’s part of the entrepreneurial journey that I enjoy. It also pays well to be a lifelong learner.
